A long way out in the deep blue sea

在遥远的蓝色大海深处

there lived a fish.

住着一条鱼。

Not just an ordinary fish,

这可不是一条平凡的鱼，

but the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean.

这是大海里最标致的鱼了。

His scales were every shade of blue and green and purple,

它有着五彩缤纷的鳞片，就像彩虹同样，蓝的、绿的、紫的,

with sparkling silver scales among them.

还会闪闪发光。

The other fish were amazed at his beauty.

此外鱼都出格恋慕。

They called him Rainbow Fish.

他们叫他彩虹鱼。

“Come on, Rainbow Fish,” they would call. “Come and play with us!”

“来呀，彩虹鱼，快来和咱们一块玩吧！”

But the Rainbow Fish would just glide past,

但是，彩虹鱼连看都不看他们一眼就走了，

proud and silent, letting his scales shi妹妹er.

还自豪地闪了闪鳞片。

One day, a little blue fish followed after him.

有一天，一条小蓝鱼从后面追了上来。

“Rainbow Fish,” he called.

“彩虹鱼，”他喊道，

“wait for me !

“等等我！

Please give me one of your shiny scales.

求求你了，把你的闪光鳞片，送给我一片好吗？

They are so wonderful, and you have so many.”

其实是太标致了。再说，你有那末多片。”

“You want me to give you one of special scales ?

“你想让我把我这与众分歧的闪光鳞送你一片？

Who do you think you are ?” cried the Rainbow Fish.

你觉得你是谁啊？” 彩虹鱼叫道。

“Get away from me !”

“快给我闪一边去！”

Shocked, the little blue fish swam away.

小蓝鱼吓坏了，赶快游走了。

He was so upset,

小蓝鱼很惆怅，

he told all his friends what had happened.

并把这件事奉告了朋侪们。

From then on, no one would have anything to do with the Rainbow Fish.

从那今后，再也没有鱼愿意和彩虹鱼措辞了。

They turned away when he swam by.

彩虹鱼一游过来，大师就都把头扭到了一边。

What good were the dazzling, shi妹妹ering scales with no one to admire them?

即便有一身刺眼的闪光鳞片，却没有人歌颂，又有甚么用呢？

Now he was the loneliest fish in the entire ocean.

终极，彩虹鱼酿成大海里最孤傲的一条鱼了。

One day he poured out his troubles to the starfish.

有一天，彩虹鱼向海星抱怨说

“I really am beautiful. Why doesn’t anybody like me?”

“我这么标致，为甚么没人喜好我呢？”

“I can’t answer that for you,” said the starfish.

“这我怎样晓得。”海星说

“But if you go beyond the coral reef to a deep cave you will find the wise octopus.

“不外，你如果超出珊瑚礁，游进一个深深的洞窟里，就可以见到无所不知的章鱼奶奶了。

Maybe she can help you.”

她或许能帮忙你。”

The Rainbow Fish found the cave.

彩虹鱼找到了阿谁洞窟。

It was very dark inside and he couldn’t see anything.

内里黑漆漆的，甚么也看不见。

Then suddenly two eyes caught him in their glare and the octopus emerged from the darkness.

黑黑暗，忽然有两只豁亮的眼睛盯住了彩虹鱼，紧接着章鱼游了出来。

“I have been waiting for you,”

“我正在等你呢。”

said the octopus with a deep voice.

章鱼用低落的声音说。

“The waves have told me your story.

“波浪把你的事变都奉告我了。

This is my advice. Give a glittering scale to each of the other fish.

我建议你把你的闪光鳞，分给每条鱼一片。

You will no longer be the most beautiful fish in the sea,

如许一来，固然不是一条最标致的鱼了，

but you will

discover how to be happy.”

但你会领会到甚么才是幸福，会晓得若何得到幸福。”

“I can’t…” the Rainbow Fish started to say,

“但是……”彩虹鱼刚想再说些甚么，

but the octopus had already disappeared into a dark cloud of ink.

章鱼已消散在黑暗的墨汁里了。

Give away my scales?

把我的鳞片分给他们？

My beautiful shining scales? Never.

把这一身闪光鳞分给他们？毫不。

How could I ever be happy without them?

没有了闪光鳞，还怎样能得到幸福呢？

Suddenly he felt the light touch of a fin.

就在这时候，不晓得谁的鱼鳍轻轻地碰了彩虹鱼一下。

The little blue fish was back!

本来是小蓝鱼又来了！

“Rainbow Fish, please, don’t be angry.

“彩虹鱼，求求你啦，别朝气。

I just want one little scale.”

只要送给我一片最最小的闪光鳞就行。”

The Rainbow Fish wavered.

彩虹鱼夷由起来。

Only one very very small shi妹妹ery scale, he thought.

他想，不就是一片小小的闪光鳞吗？

Well maybe I wouldn’t miss just one.

好吧，归正只送一片，也没有甚么舍不得的。

Carefully the Rainbow Fish pulled out the smallest scale ,

彩虹鱼谨慎翼翼、谨慎翼翼地把一片最最小的鳞片，

and gave it to

the little fish.

送给了小蓝鱼。

“Thank you! Thank you very much!”

“感谢！太感谢了！”

The little blue fish bubbled playfully,

吥噜吥噜，小蓝鱼高兴地吐出了一串泡泡，

as he tucked the shiny scale in among his blue ones.

把闪光鳞贴到了本身那蓝色的鳞片傍边。

A rather peculiar feeling came over the Rainbow Fish.

彩虹鱼的心中涌起了一种奥妙的感受。

For a long time he watched the little blue fish swim back,

他久久地凝视着小蓝鱼明灭着的新的鳞片，

and forth with his new scale glittering in the water.

在水里游来游去。

The little blue fish whizzed through the ocean with his scale flashing,

小蓝鱼明灭着鳞片在海里这么一游，

so it didn’t take long before the Rainbow Fish was surrounded by the other fish.

彩虹鱼立即就被此外鱼团团围住了。

Everyone wanted a glittering scale.

大师都想要一片闪光鳞。

The Rainbow Fish shared his scales left and right.

彩虹鱼送了一片又一片。

And the more he gave away,

跟着送出的鳞片变多了，

the more delighted he became.

身旁的海水也愈来愈闪亮。

When the water around him filled with gli妹妹ering scales,

当他四周的海水布满着发光的鳞片，

he at last felt at home among the other fish.

他就像回到了家里同样很是快活。

Finally the Rainbow Fish had only one shining scale left.

最后彩虹鱼只剩下一片闪光鳞了。

His most prized possessions had been given away,

他把本身最贵重的工具都分给了大师，

yet he was very happy.

可他却感觉很是幸福。

“Come on Rainbow Fish,” they called.” Come and play with us!”

“来呀，彩虹鱼，来和咱们一块儿玩！”大师叫道

“Here I come,” said the Rainbow Fish,

“来啦！”彩虹鱼说着，

and happy as a splash, he swam off to join his friends.

并高兴地朝着朋侪们游去了。
